London's Charity Partnership - Crisis

Grant Thornton London has teamed up with the charity CRISIS for a 2-year partnership in the hope of raising funds and awareness to support homeless people throughout the UK. CRISIS is a charity formed in 1967 as an urgent response to homelessness. They have helped tens of thousands of people since then and campaigned tirelessly with the aim of ending homelessness for good.

As part of the CRISIS partnership, the London Sustainability Team have helped to set up a core group of CRISIS Champions who pioneer the cause and raise awareness, fundraise and organise events for their respective areas of the firm. The Champions can be anyone in the office.

As a result of this, staff from Grant Thornton have been involved in bake sales, bake offs and step challenges to raise vital funds. Public Services team, in particular, arranged various quiz nights and a bingo night where prizes were generously donated from local businesses.

Many staff have also been involved in 'Crisis at Christmas 2018' and will be there helping again this year too. This is a huge event run by CRISIS every year where from the 23rd-29th December anyone who is homeless can stay in one of the CRISIS centres, receive food, shelter and take part in a various range of activities.

The centres provide a safe, warm and friendly environment for those who need it and Grant Thornton staff are encouraged to volunteer either by helping out in the run up by building beds, sorting warehouses, and completing bucket collections at Tube stations, but also by attending the centres to make tea, cook food, run activities or just provide a friendly face and a chat for those who need it.

The overall experience of getting involved as a CRISIS champion for the firm and completing a mixture of volunteer work and running events has been extremely rewarding for all involved.

As a group we have regular catch ups and brainstorming sessions about further events and fundraising initiatives, and are always happy to have new champions involved, so, once you join the team, if you are interested to be involved in an amazing cause, contact Daniel Arda for further information.
