Final round experience day

Final round experience day

At an Experience day, you’ll come into one of our lovely offices and have a chance to meet some of the team. This will be a half day including a group exercise and an interview where we can get to know more about you and your strengths and motivations. You’ll also get to learn more about us, our purpose, vision and meet some of our current trainees.

Our experience day consists of a two-part assessment

This exercise is all about teamwork and collaboration. It will give you a chance to share your ideas but it's also important you listen to the other people’s ideas within the group. Praise them and bounce off what others say to get to the best result as a group. Speaking and listening are just as important as each other. Be aware of the time provided to complete the exercise.

Not all interviews are the same. The interview style depends on the interviewer. People who have gone through the interview say it's much more relaxed than expected. Questions range from the usual, ‘Why Grant Thornton?’, ‘Why audit?’ to questions centered on our CLEARR values.

Here are some helpful techniques:

  • Read about our firm and do your research on our website
  • Be aware of current news about Grant Thornton and the industry
  • Write a list of your strengths and times that you have shown these
  • Consider your weaknesses and your personal learning curves
  • Think about what you can contribute and what excites you about the firm and our values
  • Write a list of questions to ask the interviewer

This day is for us to get to know you but also for you to learn more about us. Use this opportunity to ask lots of questions!

After the experience day

After the experience day, we’ll let you know the outcome as soon as possible, usually within five working days.

A key part of our culture at the firm is open and honest feedback. Throughout our process you’ll get feedback on how you’ve done. As mentioned before, your feedback for the online strengths assessment will be in the form of a report you’ll be sent. The rest of the feedback will be tips from us to help you prepare for the next stage as well. Alongside this, you’ll get access to Yammer (our internal version of Facebook) where you can ask questions, find answers and hints on how to shine in our process and even chat with your fellow applicants.
