Talent22: our first week with Grant Thornton
In September 2022, we welcomed our highest ever intake of trainees with over 400 apprentices and graduates joining us to start their careers. We are pleased to welcome more apprentices than ever before, moving our trainee intake close to a 50:50 apprentice-graduate split.
Over a two-week period, our trainees took part in local orientations and training programmes, finishing with the two-day Talent22 event which, for the first time since 2020, included a blend of in-person events and online elements.
Three weeks into their time with the firm, we spoke to some of our new joiners about their experiences so far:
Ahmed Baig, Audit Associate
Before I started, I was a bit worried about where I could pray in the Manchester office and how flexible the timings were. Once I had the tour with Mark, he pointed out the multi faith room which I use on a regular basis!
The live Q&A session was a real highlight of Talent22 for me. Being able to ask questions directly to the CEO and partners and receive immediate and informative answers, was great.
Three words I’d choose to describe how I feel about my career are grateful, ambitious and hopeful.
Antony Harvey, Audit Associate
The trainee Yammer Community helped alleviate some of my apprehension before joining. It enabled me to develop relationships with other new joiners before we started.
My standout moment from Talent 22 has been the opportunity to meet so many other like-minded individuals who have also joined the firm with similar ambitions.
Three words I’d choose to describe how I feel about my career are motivated, inspired and committed.
Emily Adams, Business Services Associate, Apprentice
I already feel like I’ve settled into the firm. Everyone I have met has been incredibly welcoming and understanding, from senior firm leaders to colleagues and new joiners. I know I’ve made the right decision about joining.
My standout moment of Talent22 was the inclusion and diversity talk. It was amazing to hear how Grant Thornton supports its people and the support it offers.
Three words I’d choose to describe how I feel about my future career are excited, ambitious and supported.
Seb De Villiers, Tax Associate
I chose to join the firm because of the fantastic opportunity it offers to school leavers, which allows me to gain my qualifications and progress within my career here without requiring a degree.
My standout moment from Talent22 was the talk from our CEO, Dave Dunckley. He talked about his journey to CEO - I found it inspiring.
Three words I’d choose to describe how I feel about my career are excited, enthusiastic and eager.
